Church of the Holy Rosary in Graceville

With the amazing interaction that this photo received when I posted it to the MNbump Facebook Page, I thought it would make a great first post for our newly added category “Photo Highlights”.  I was running early for a meeting that was in Graceville – so I took a quick loop to drive along the lake and with the gorgeous evening and calm waters who could resist stopping to take a quick picture of that view!  (Facebook Insights:  4,300 FB feed reach, 446 post clicks & 218 likes, comments & shares for this picture!) This beautiful Church was erected during the pastorate of Father Michael O’Brien and was given the title of Church of the Holy Rosary.  In 1897, it was dedicated by Archbishop John Ireland.  The steeple was destroyed and other extensive damage done by a tornado in 1944.  Renovation and redecoration of the Church were completed during the years while Father D. Eichinger and Father D. Lehman were pastors.  (Information taken from the Big Stone County Historical Society’s “Big Stone County, Minnesota 1881-1981 book – Stop by …

Big Stone Lake Fishing Opening – Report

Thanks Artie for the Fishing Opener update and picture! (report below) Great fishing and limits of walleyes were reported for the Minnesota/South Dakota border water opener on Big Stone Lake which started at midnight Friday April 17. The first BIG fish of the year may have gone to the Bryon Schloemer of New Market, MN! Caught just 10 minutes after midnight was this nice 29″ walleye which is a personal best for Byron! The fish was caught in 6′ of water on the rocks! The first BIG fish of the year may have gone to the Bryon Schloemer! Caught 10 minutes after midnight was this nice 29″ walleye! Bald Eagles – Hundreds of them! – Updated

Thanks to the gals at Minnwest Bank (esp. Kim Kuchenmeister!) for alerting me to the Bald Eagle find! Great opportunity to take the kids to see a group of Bald Eagles like no other in the area – head over to the Big Stone Power Plant (north side of the ponds). They are flying around and landing on the ponds and by driving further west you will find them in the trees next to the north side of the road!  (you will also find them in groves scattered around the area)  Beautiful! Update: Fun to see the interest in the Eagles!  This post was viewed 807 times today by 662 unique visitors. With Fish!  Thanks to Brenda & Jim Haugen for sharing this great picture!   Thanks to Photographer Rob Rakow for sharing the picture below!  You can find more pictures of the Eagles on Rob Rakow Photography’s Facebook Page

Ortonville Photos

Thanks to Mary Taffe for sharing! She walks every day and captures beautiful shots throughout Ortonville. She has provided (and will continue) some of her photos to be used on the MNbump site & social media. We plan to keep them in a library for blog post uses… but thought they should be enjoyed as a group here. If you have photos that you would
